Women’s Gymnastics: Rutgers sets school record.

PISCATAWAY, NJ- The Rutgers Scarlet Knights set a team record score of 195.975 in their final home meet of the season Saturday afternoon as they took a win over Cornell (191.325), William and Mary (191.100), and the number 1 ranked Division 3 team in the country, Brockport (188.750).

RU’s Luisa Leal scored a 9.925 to take first in the Vault. Teammate’s Alexis Gunzelman, Alyssa Straub and Jenna Williams filled in the second and third place slots. Brittany Stover was W&M’s top finisher, McKenna Archer was Cornell’s, and Lexi King was Brockport’s.

On the Bars, Williams swung to a 9.9 and first place, Gunzelman was second with a 9.85 and Cornell’s Melanie Jorgensen as well as RU’s Danielle D’Elia each had 9.8s. Jessica Pritchard and Stover each had W&M’s top Bars score. Stephanie Schuler of Brockport lead her team in scoring on the event as well.

On Beam, Claudia Salinas was first for the Scarlet Knights posting a 9.85. Fellow Knight Emma Rose Trentacosti had 9.8. A trio of Tribe Gymnasts, Larson Lasek, Stacia Ruse, and Brandy Stover, as well as RU’s Williams were third with 9.75s. Lily Jagodzinski of Brockport had her team’s best score.

Leal took first on Floor as well thanks to a 9.9. D’Elia’s 9.875 was second and Gunzelman and teammate Katie Stebick were third scoring a 9.85s. Mackenzie Sato of Cornell and Taryn Kateridge of Brockport each posted team top scores with 9.8s. Maggie Lundeen’s 9.725 led the Tribe.

In the All Around it would be Gunzelman’s consistent scoring that led to a 39.225 win. Leal was second with a 38.8. Brittany Stover was third, Lasek fourth, and Brockport’s Elizabeth Levy fifth.

Coach Louis Levine’s record setting squad goes on the road for the rest of the season including EAGL championships in North Carolina later in March.
