BROOKVILLE N.Y. – On Pride day at LIU, the host Sharks faced the visiting Yale Bulldogs in a dual meet. The outcome was a 194.400 score for LIU and a 190.125 for Yale. Individually, LIU swept the four apparatus events, though Sarah Wilson of Yale took the All Around with a 38.925 by virtue of being the lone All Arounder in the competition.
On Vault, Syd Morris won it with a 9.8, as her teammates Katy Koopman, Isabella Savino, and Jah’Liyah Bedminster all placed second with 9.75s. Raegan Walker led Yale with a 9.625.
Mara Titarsolej won Bars thanks to a 9.925. Wilson of Yale placed second with a 9.825, and Bedminster, Talia Folino of LIU, and Sherry Wang of Yale had 9.775s for third.
Over on beam, Ilka Juk took it with a 9.775 just ahead of Yale’s Wilson and Hana Strause and their 9.75s. Morris posted the third highest score of a 9.725.
Finally on floor, Morris, Koopman, and Ella Barrington flipped to 9.8s for top honors, while Wilson posted a 9.75 and Strause a 9.725.
For Pride day, the gym was decorated with rainbow flags, both the original, and the newer “progress” design. Also the judge’s flag on Vault was a rainbow flag rather than the usual solid color variety. The LIU gymnasts and team staff also wore specialized shirts for the occasion. Yale was also clad in a themed shirt for the day.
