SCSU at UB Gymnastics Report and Video

By D.F. Pendrys [Full Results from UB Athletics]

BRIDGEPORT, CT – Above all else the most notable result of Saturday’s SCSU at Bridgeport Gymnastics meet was that it happened at all. Both programs faced a long stretch of time off due to the COVID pandemic, missing all of last year, and in Bridgeport’s case, the university itself and their program, nearly ceased to exist. Last week’s opener at Southern for both teams had also been postponed due COVID so this finally was the opener they had been working to.

It had been a time of transition as well as longtime UB head coach Byron Knox became SCSU’s coach and longtime UB assistant and alum Lorraine Galow became Head Coach of the Purple Knights. The two schools also joined the newly formed Gymnastics East Conference which combined the former ECAC schools in Division 1 and Division 2 all into one conference.

On the floor itself Bridgeport posted a 189.150 while the Owls of SCSU scored a 187.775. SCSU’s Hannah Stahlbrodt won the All-Around with her 38.425 ahead of UB’s Kiana Sessions and her 37.375 and fellow Purple Knight Alyssa Wiggins who scored a 37.275.

On the Vault Stahlbrodt and UB’s Olivia Imbarlina took first place with 9.7s. Session flew to a 9.625 and UB’s Joanna Chambers and SCSU’s Hannah Zebdi had 9.6s.

Over on Bars, UB veteran Kat Doran scored a 9.8, while Stahlbrodt swung to a 9.725. SCSU’s Shreya Munshi picked up a 9.650 as well.

Imbarlina again shined on Beam scoring a meet leading 9.7 followed by SCSU’s Libby Allen and her 9.675 and fellow Owls Angel Lee and Emelia Diaz who each had 9.625s.

Finally on Floor, it was Stahlbrodt placing first with a 9.7, followed by Session and UB’s Crystal Gwinn’s 9.6. Wiggins had the third best score of the day with a 9.450.
