Brown Wins Close One At Yale

NEW HAVEN, CT – In a close game Saturday afternoon, the Brown Bears downed the Yale Women’s Soccer Team at Reese Stadium. The first half left the score tied at 2, but a late goal by Brown was the deciding factor.

Yale struck first as Chloe Laureano got a pass and sent the ball home at 6:16. Assists came from Ellie Rappole and Sarah Jordan who set up the tally. Though, Brown was able to equalize when awarded a penalty kick. Brittany Raphino sent it past the keeper at 9:45.

Not long after, Raphino maneuvered past the goal keeper on the run and put the ball into an empty net to give Brown the lead at 13:48.

The two teams went back and forth each generating pressure, though at Yale earned a corner kick. Laureano sent it over and Nana Yang headed it into the net to tie up the game at 21:33.

Following that Brown responded with a lot of pressure and corner kicks but no further goals would be come for them. Yale’s Maya Bellomo was called upon to make several saves. When the half wrapped up Yale had a grand total of 3 shots, but Brown had 10.

The second half was a far different story. Whereas in much of the first each side had gotten chances, most of the second was all Brown generating pressure. Eventually at 74:12 a corner kick lead to a header in from Raphino earning her a hat trick. Yale did mount a fierce attempt to get the equalizer in the last moments of the game but Brown held them off to preserve their victory.

Brown ended the day with 18 total shots and 9 on net. Yale ended the day with 3 total and 2 on net. Bellomo made 6 saves on the day. Raphino had 4 of Brown’s shots on goal, and Claire Myers had 2. Sarah Jordan had the lone Yale shot that did not go into the net on the day.

Head Coach Sarah Martinez’s Yale team falls to 3-14-0 and 1-6-0 in the Ivy League. Head Coach Kia McNeill’s Brown squad rises to 12-3-0 and 7-0-0 in the Ivy League.
