ECAC Division 2 Gymnastics Championships (with Video)

BRIDGEPORT, CT – The University of Bridgeport picked up their 11th straight ECAC Division 2 title Saturday afternoon in their home confines of Wheeler Recreation Center as they posted a 195.150, followed by West Chester’s 193.2 and Southern Connecticut’s 190.9.

On Vault, Julianna Roland of UB took the title with her 9.875, trailed by teammates Crystal Gwinn and her 9.825, and fellow Purple Knight Gabrielle Kistner’s 9.725. Varvara Diakakis, also of UB, was fourth scoring a 9.7. Hannah Stahlbrodt of SCSU and Jessica Meakim of WCU each led their teams with 9.675s.

On Bars, Bridgeport’s Kelli Tereshko won Vault with a 9.875 followed by 9.85s from UB’s Kelly Aycock and WCU’s Myranda Marshall. Maritza Futch of UB had the third best score of the day with a 9.825. A trio of gymnasts posted 9.8s as Ashley Duke of West Chester and Thomara Powell-Brown and Kathryn Doran of UB swung to the fine score. Jacqueline Kutcher and Cassidy Girolamo of SCSU each had 9.6s for the top Owl tallies.

On Beam, SCSU’s Jordan Peloquin took the title with her 9.85, followed by teammate Morgan Gatewood’s 9.8 and WCU’s Sarah Boyd who put up the same score. UB’s Maya Reimers, and Doran as well as Cassie Hageman of WCU all had 9.775s.

On Floor, Roland, Gwinn, Reimers, and Meakin had 9.85s to share the title. Kelly Aycock had the second best score of the afternoon spinning to a 9.825 and Peloquin led SCSU with the third best score of the meet as she tumbled to a 9.775.

In the All Around, Roland took first with a 39.175 as Meakim placed second with her 38.9 and SCSU’s Cassidy Girolamo scored a 37.725.

SCSU’s coaches swept the ECAC D2 awards as Jerry Nelson won Coach of the Year and Linda Mullin won Assistant Coach of the Year.

Delaney Cahill of UB and Meakim were named ECAC D2 Scholar-Athletes of the Year.

Roland picked up the Rookie of the Year honor, Boyd was named the Specialist of the Year, and Stahlbrodt was awarded the Athlete of the Year recipient.
