Springfield Women and Men’s Gymnastics host RIC and Navy (With Video)

SPRINGFIELD, MA– The Springfield College Women’s and Men’s Gymnastics teams each hosted their last regular season meet of the season Sunday at Blake Arena. The women took on Rhode Island College, while the men welcomed in Navy.

Women’s Meet

Both Springfield College women and RIC set new school records of 190.725 and 184.350 respectively. SC also set a beam record of 48.350 and floor record of 48.600. Jess Clemens set a brand new All Around record scoring a 38.750 in her last home meet.

Ali Rushlow of SC led the team on the Vault with her 9.65, followed by a 9.625 by Clemens and a 9.55 by Heather Gomes. RIC’s Allie DiBiase landed a 9.55 to lead her team, and her teammate Christa Vaccaro posted a 9.5.

Clemens soared to the meet’s best score on Uneven Bars with a 9.650, followed by fellow Pride members Taylor Campagnone with her 9.375 and Alana Calabrese’s who swung to a 9.325. Miranda Murphy was the first among RIC gymnasts thanks to a 9.2.

Clemens tied the school record on beam with a 9.775, followed by teammate Sarah Murphy’s 9.725, and fellow SC squadmate Sara King’s 9.65. Rushlow and Gomes had 9.6s for the rest of the counted scores that led to the record. Grace Davis was the top beam worker for RIC scoring a 9.475.

On floor, Springfield’s ace, Tali Twomey, hit a 9.8, Rushlow scored a 9.775 and Gomes landed a 9.725 in her final senior routine on Blake’s floor. Clemens posted a 9.7, and Campagnone a 9.6 to round out the counted scores for the floor record.

In addition to Clemens winning the All Around, Murphy posted a 37.375, and DiBiase a 36.500.

Men’s Meet

On the men’s side Navy put up a 387.9000 vs. Springfield’s 383.0500, though the two teams were fairly even on four of six events.

Lucas Beltran of Navy took first on Floor with a 13.8 as Springfield’s Stephen Lewis scored a 13.7 and Josh Williams of Navy scored a 13.4.

On Pommel Horse, David Toussaint of Navy held steady for a 14.1, nearly an entire point ahead of the field. Jake Carlson of Navy and Lewis each had 13.2s.

Christian Correale of Navy took the Rings with a 13.55, followed by a 13.4 by Lewis, and 13.05 by Nick Cramer of SC.

Beltran flew to a 14.2 on Vault, as Lewis hit a 14.1, and Navy’s Frank Bradley scored a 14.00.

Max Gerber continued Navy’s success as he placed first on 13.75, Jannik Haas of Springfield put up a 13.25 and Christian Wilkey Jr. of SC scored a 13.1.

On High Bar, Ben Provost and Gerber completed Navy’s sweep of all six events with 13.5. Haas continued his High Bar success by scoring a 13.2

In the All Around, Lewis scored a 78.25 and fellow Pride member Trevor Lamberton picked up a 73.8.
