HAMDEN, CT – The Quinnipiac Bobcats women’s hockey team picked up a major victory 4-0 over #5 Cornell Saturday afternoon a day after a tough overtime loss to #4 Colgate. Abbie Ives shut out the Big Red stopping all 23 of their shots wrapping up a solid weekend of work for the goaltender and raising her record to 11-8-2. Cornell’s Lindsay Browning made 20 saves on the 23 QU shots she faced and took the loss to drop to 0-2-0.

Kati Tabin picked up the eventual game winner at 16:35 on the power play when she carefully teed up a shot from the top of the umbrella through the screen and right by Browning. She was assisted by Kenzie Lancaster and Melissa Samoskevich.

The two teams would play a scoreless period 2, but QU broke the game open in the third. Olivia Konigson launched it from the point, and the initial save was made, but Kenzie Lancaster was right in front and she flicked it to the back of the net at 12:46. About 3 minutes later, Lancaster scored again after being set up by Melissa Samoskevich and Tabin at 15:35. Cornell would pull the goalie for several minutes in the hopes of making something happen, but instead Sarah-Eve Coutu-Goodbout broke out of the Bobcats end, controlled the puck carefully and sent it into the empty net.

Coutu-Godbout led Quinnipiac with 4 shots, Kenzie Prater and Samoskevich had 3 apiece, and a large number of Bobcats had 2 apiece. Maddie Mills, Paige Lewis, and Lenka Serdar all had 3 shots apiece for Cornell, with several of their number also at 2 shots apiece.

Prater put up 4 blocks, Tabin had 2, Samoskevich, Lancaster, and Raquel Pennoyer had 1 block each. Erin O’Connor blocked 4 shots for Cornell, Sarah Knee had 2 blocks, Devon Facchinato, Brianna Veerman, Serdar, Amy Curlew, and Mills had 1 each.

Quinnipiac:

• Samoskevich and Lancaster continued their dangerous offense generating scoring chances and zone entries.
• Randi Marcon, back in the lineup, came up with some zone entries and zone exits.
• Kate MacKenzie made herself noticed on the power play through scoring chances, and on the penalty kill through clears.
• Olivia Konigson, despite being relatively new to the lineup has fit in well into the offense having numerous opportunities herself.
• Tabin was had a variety of zone exits including after she stole it from Cornell.
• All three “’Kenzie’s” had even strength zone exits, with MacKenzie having a few, Prater havign numerous, and Lancaster was also often moving the puck out of the QU zone.

Cornell:

• Serdar, Lewis, Mills, Knee, O’Connor, and Phelps were producing many zone entries and scoring chances.
• Kendra Nealey kept the puck within the QU end several times as did Knee. Nealey also stole the puck from a Bobcat in her zone and took it all the way back. She disrupted other Quinnipiac attacks. Phelps was also noticeable with zone exits.
