HAMDEN, CT – Fresh off their overtime win over Union, the Quinnipiac Bobcats women’s hockey team dispatch another ECAC foe in RPI Saturday afternoon. In a game with far more penalties being called than the night before, the scoring didn’t start until period 2. Taylor House put the Bobcats on the board at 6:59. Raquel Pennoyer’s shot bounced off of RPI’s Lovisa Selander and to House’s waiting stick allowing the rookie to tuck it under the keeper.

RPI was able to get a late goal in the period at 19:41 after Jamie Grigsby came up with the puck in front of QU’s Abbie Ives and flicked it up and in assisted by Josefine Hansen. It was the second time in as many days Quinnipiac gave up a goal within the last 30 seconds of a period.

The hero of the night before would also be the hero on this day as well as Melissa Samoskevich whacked a puck from a tough angle at the side of the net and it bounced past Selander at 9:41 in the third. She was assisted by Kenzie Lancaster. This marked Samoskevich’s second game winner, and fourth goal of the weekend.

All in all both goaltenders played well. Selander saved 28 of 30 QU shots, and Ives saved 21 of RPI’s 22. Selander also had 2 key saves on penalty kills, and Ives had an especially important one during the PK.

Samoskevich led the team in shots with 6, House had 4, Pennoyer 3, and Alicia Barry, Lancaster, Kate MacKenzie, Renee Saltness, Abby Cleary, Kenzie Prater, and Brooke Bonsteel all had 2 apiece. QU’s offense was generated from a wide cast of characters again this night. Coach Cassandra Turner noted on Friday night that a lot of players are in new roles. This is true for the veterans taking on leadership responsibilities, but also for the rookies finding their place. Beyond all that, QU is currently playing without critical players like T.T. Cianfarano, Sarah-Eve Coutu-Godbout, Randi Marcon, and Anna Kilponen for various reasons. This has required even the current configuration to change things up and one thing QU hasn’t lacked is offensive attempts, even if the scoring has been slower.

For RPI, Grigsby had 5 shots to lead her team, Shayna Tomlinson, and Hansen had 3 apiece, and Sabrina Repaci and Lauren Severson had 2 apiece.

QU rises to 7-6-0 and 3-3 in the ECAC. RPI drops to 4-6-2 and 2-1-1 in the ECAC.

Noticed Plays.

(This is a not exhaustive very imperfect list of noticed plays that might not make the score sheet. It is very possible a player has far more of any sort of play than are noticed in the heat of action. It is what it is. Read these more as a player had “at least” what is noted here. Note the language is a bit stilted, I’m trying to figure out how to make the information flow better.)

Had multiple puck collections and steals in the defensive end and she often was skating the puck out. She also had numerous zone entries to start up the offense as she generated numerous scoring chances.

She teamed with Kati Tabin to disrupt a RPI effort when they had an extra attacker as she was very active thwarting Engineer attempts during that period. She intercepted the puck in the neutral zone and fed it to Lundblad for an entry.

Melissa Samoskevich

During penalty kills, she disrupted several RPI shots, she also had at least one clear and pushed the Engineers across the blue line at another instance. She had several steals whether in the neutral zone or the offensive zone. She also had numerous zone entries and generated scoring chances.

Kenzie Lancaster

She was critical in starting the offense up as she had a lot of zone entries throughout the game. She also stole the puck in the offensive zone at even strength and also on a power play. Defensively she not only cleared the puck curing a penalty kill, she also possessed the disc in the RPI end during another PK wasting time. Late in the game when RPI had a 6 to 4 advantage with the net empty and a power play already in progress, she managed a shot on the RPI net anyway.

Grace Markey

Markey had a clear on the penalty kill, and numerous times exited the puck from the Bobcats D zone during even strength situations. She also had at least one steal in the offensive end and played a key role in zone entries as well for the second day in a row.

Allison Roethke skated the puck in during the attack at least once.

Abby Cleary Got the puck in the offensive zone prolonging the QU attack.

Laura Lundblad

She also was responsible for a variety of entries into the RPI end as she was a key part of the offensive setup a lot. Defensively she whisked the puck out of the QU goal mouth, she also grabbed the puck and skated it out of QU zone at least once. Late when RPI had the skater advantage with their net empty she disrupted the Engineers back in their own end.

Kenzie Prater

In addition to generating her own scoring chances she also led to those of teammates like Kati Tabin. She also kept the puck in the zone during an attack. Defensively she had a clear during a penalty kill. She also intercepted an RPI pass in the Bobcats zone and exited with the puck. Prater also stole the puck from an opponent and skated away. She also put her stick on a visitor’s stick interrupting the shot, and she brought the puck out.

Raquel Pennoyer

She had a clear on the penalty kill, and also disrupted RPI from setting in up the neutral zone. She also had at least one zone exit from the QU end. With RPI attempting to score with an extra attacker late, she fought the puck across the QU blue line to force the opponents to setup. Pennoyer also continues to be important in setting up the offense.

Brooke Bonsteel

She generated a scoring chance by collecting the puck in the RPI end. She also stole the puck in the defensive zone swiftly brought it out. She also at a different time snatched up the biscuit in the home and headed up ice to lead to a scoring opportunity.

Kate MacKenzie

She had a major role on the penalty kill, with numerous clears, and at least two blocked shots when QU was down a skater. She also had several zone entries including when she fed it to Pennoyer for a scoring chance. In the defensive end at even strength several times she would get possession and send it off to a teammate to start the move down the ice.

Renee Saltness

Saltness was also a key part of the offense, skating into the RPI zone to start off the attack. She also had at lest one block and got it out of the defensive end at least once.

Kati Tabin

Tabin collected the puck often in the Bobcats end and moved it out across the blue line. She moved the disc out of the zone several times during penalty kills as well. She fed it up to Lundblad who sent it to Cherpak who had a scoring chance. She also kept the puck from crossing the line during a QU attack and had an interception in the RPI zone before sending it to House for a scoring try. Late when RPI had an extra attacker, she and House flummoxed the opponent’s attempt to setup.

Alicia Barry

She had a block on the penalty kill, and also several clears. She also was responsible for numerous zone exits from the QU side. She also fed it to MacKenzie who started an offensive chance, and had a similar result when she passed it up to Cleary. Barry also interceded in an RPI attempt to setup in their own zone.

Was noticed stealing the puck in the neutral zone and acquiring it during an offensive attack.

Shayna Tomlinson

Was often a part of the offensive setup, with numerous zone entries including times she brought the puck all the way back from the defensive zone. Tomlinson often was collecting the disc down on the RPI side and moving it away. She also had a clear on the penalty kill and had at least one block at even strength. In the Bobcats zone she had at least one steal of note, and also grabbed the puck and fed it to Grigsby for a scoring try. When RPI had an extra attacker in addition to a power play she was the one skating in to start the attack.

Lauren Severson

Had several zone entries on the offensive side, and moved the puck out of the RPI zone numerous times as well. Also disrupted a QU zone entry and had at least one block.

Makenna Thomas

She helped generate some offensive chances, and moved the puck out of the RPI zone several times.

Marisa Raspa

Had numerous zone entries, and also stole the puck in the Engineers end to stop a QU try. She also brought the puck out of the defensive end one way or another several times.

Kendra Farole had at least BL

Amanda Kimmerle

Had an even strength clear, moved the puck out of the RPI goal mouth, picked up at least one block, and was responsible for other zone exits.

Madeleine Burnett

Was noticed intercepting a QU pass and starting the puck away from the RPI zone.

Whitney Renn

In addition to at least two blocks, she also kept the puck within the QU zone during an offensive sequence and got the puck out of the RPI zone at least once.

Aly Tremblay

Was noticed working hard to get the puck away from the RPI zone several times including when she fought it across the blue line.

Sam Nolan

She was seen blocking at least one shot, and exiting the zone with it. She also grabbed the puck in the offensive zone to prolong the RPI attempt.

Jaimie Grigsby

In addition to her goal she had a ton of zone entries to start up the offense and generate scoring tries.

Sabrina Repaci

Had a variety of efforts including several clears on the penalty kill. She also intercepted a QU centering pass to eliminate that danger while down a skater. Repaci also grabbed the puck in the defensive end at even strength to move it away. She also produced several scoring opportunities for the team by acquiring the puck in the RPI end many times, or skating in for a zone entry many times.

Megan Hayes

During a penalty kill she intercepted a QU pass that attempted to enter the zone, but she cleared it. She used some great stickhandling to produce a shot and at another point grabbed the puck in the offensive end to keep RPI’s efforts going.

Josefine Hansen

Contributed in a variety of ways. In a critical point blocked a shot from QU on the RPI empty net late in the game. She had at least one block, and was responsible for moving the puck out of the RPI end at times. She also intercepted a QU puck in the neutral zone stopping their momentum. Offensively when she acquired the biscuit in the offensive zone it produced a shot. She also kept the puck from crossing the blue line during another attack.
