NEW HAVEN, CT- The Yale Bulldogs faced a rare opponent in the Colorado College Tigers on Friday night at Reese Stadium, and despite Yale outshooting the visitors 18 to 5, the result was a 1-1 tie. Yale had put 4 of those shots on net and Colorado 3, though many Bulldog chances were just wide.

The first goal of the game came at 31:29 when the ball was bouncing around in front of the Yale net after a Tiger attempted to score. Recent Colorado College substitution Catie McDonald got to it for a second chance and sent it past Yale’s Jane Buckley. It would be the only shot Buckley would face in the game as Yale has been platooning her with Alyssa Fagel. An assist went to Lauren Milliet during the chaos in front.

Yale didn’t take long to strike back. After a Bulldogs corner kick the ball was all over the place in front of the CC net. It eventually came to Sarah McCauley who sent it on the ground past Jade Odom for the equalizer. Odom made 3 saves on the day. Assists went to Carlin Hudson and Aerial Chavarin.

That would be it for the scoring as the teams would fight through 2 overtimes but no one found the back of the net again. CC’s Rachel Martino prevented a goal on a Yale corner kick in the 2^nd OT frame when she blocked a shot in front of the net as the goaltender was elsewhere in the usual chaos.

The flow of the game was somewhat apparent from the shot totals. Yale kept Colorado College from getting too many opportunities, though as noted from the shots on goal, when CC got one it was usually a quality chance. The Tigers also had several breakaways though the Bulldogs would thwart them at the last minute. Yale had 10 corner kicks to work with to set up shots in the zone as opposed to the Tigers 1.

McDonald had 2 of her team’s 3 shots on goal and Martino the other. Hannah Burgo and Milliet had the other 2 shots.

For Yale, Meg Byfield, Michelle Alozie and Noelle Higginson had shots on goal. Alozie had 6 shots in total, Chavarin had 3, McCauley, Higginson and Kristina Kim 2, and Byfield, Ciara Ostrander, and Sarah Jordan 1. Alozie was a major threat throughout the game, but when the defense would close in on her the ball ended up in the hands of players like Higginson or Byfield who would try to punch it back in. Chavarin substituted in and out of the game but was dangerous whenever she was out there.

Hudson and Kim’s and Mackenzie Marsh’s defensive play was especially noted in this outing as was Higginson’s role in setting up her offensive partners throughout the game.

Camile Weaver’s defending for Colorado College was also prevalent as she was often in the way of the Yale attack. Kelli Sullivan was also often upsetting the Bulldogs setup from midfield. Milliet picked up numerous steals and took off on breaks herself, including one where it was just her versus the goaltender.

With the tie, Yale is now 6-1-1, and Colorado College is 3-3-1
