Gymnastics: Yale, SC, RIC at SCSU

NEW HAVEN, CT- In a quad meet that brought in teams from all 3 divisions, the Yale Bulldogs took the highest score of 192.450, the host Southern Connecticut State Owls took a 188.050, The Springfield College Pride posted a 185.1, and the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen had a 179.350.

Southern’s Tiffany Elliot won the Vault with her 9.65 just ahead of Yale’s Megan Ryan and her 9.625. Jade Buford of the Bulldogs scored a 9.6. Alexandra Avendano of SCSU flew to a 9.575 and Roxanne Trachtenberg and Rebecca Chong of Yale had 9.55s and 9.525s respectively. Heather Gomes and Marissa DeAngelo led SC with 9.425s. Kyndell Yett had the best RIC score of 9.4 on the day.

On the Bars, Trachtenberg scored a 9.775 as Yale swept the first top 3 places as Tatiana Winkelman swung to a 9.75, and Anella Anderson and Ryan had 9.7s. Jessica Clemens was the highest scorer on SC as she and Buford scored 9.625s. Kasey Kilmurray led SCSU with her 9.475 and Allie DiBiase had the top RIC tally of 8.725.

All the team found the Beam to be treacherous though Kathleen Aberger of SCSU, Yale’s Emma Firmstone, and DeAngelo braved it for 9.625s each. Kacie Traina of the Bulldogs posted a 9.6 and Anderson had a 9.525. Violet Pinola led RIC with her 9.375.

On the Floor Exercise, Buford hit a 9.9 to take first decisively. Avendano continued her FX success with a 9.825 as did Firmstone. Abigail Bensley scored a 9.725 for SCSU, Anderson had a 9.7 and Chong flipped to a 9.675.

The scores kept piling up as Elliot scored a 9.65, her teammate Keylea Brothers scored a 9.625 as did SC’s Nicole Silva. Aberger put up a 9.6, and Yale’s Kiarra Alleyne landed a 9.575 just ahead of her teammate Sloane Smith’s 9.5. DiBiase led RIC by acquiring a 9.425.

In the All Around, Buford won with her 38.375 total. DeAngelo was second with a 37.725 and DiBiase posted a 36.1 for third.

It was senior night at SCSU and Seniors Rotem Porat and Abigail Bensley were honored for their careers at Southern. Each has been a key part of the Southern lineup.
