WCU Gymnastics Rising: Part 1

West Chester University Gymnastics took down their school record February 11th and their seniors were a key part of that. In part 1 of a series looking at West Chester’s rise this season a look at Seniors Samantha Engle, Kristen Torres, Selena Swanger and Majesta Valentine.

Samantha Engle

A Vault specialist who is a fixture in that rotation. Here she is scoring highly at Springfield last season.

Kristen Torres

A Vault & Floor Specialist who has appeared in every meet this season.

Here she competes at WCU during the team’s record breaking day.

Here she is at Springfield last year performing her floor routine.

Selena Swanger

An All-Arounder during much of the season giving WCU two potent AA forces in the senior class.

She has been steady on the Vault throughout the season.

Her season high on Bars came at Southern earlier this year.

One of her best scores of the season came at home February 11th.

Swanger had one of her higher scores at SCSU earlier this year.

Majesta Valentine

The All-Arounder holds all or part of WCU’s Vault, Beam, Floor, and All-Around program records. She set a new record in the All-Around February 11th, with a 39.3 consisting of the routines below. She also tied her Beam record of 9.85 (which she shares with Kaley LaFleur.) She holds the floor record of 9.925 (after a meet at Penn this season) and has a Vault record of 9.85 she set last season.  She also qualified for NCAA D1 Regionals in 2015 and 2016, the only WCU Gymnast to ever do so.

Swanger, Valentine & Junior Meghan Chan (Who you will hear more about in another feature.) spoke about the meet on February 11th, their team’s growth and their individual efforts.
