NEW HAVEN, CT- The Quinnipiac Bobcats Men’s hockey team rebounded from a low scoring performance against Brown, to take a decisive 5-2 win over Yale Saturday night.

Yale’s Frankie DiChiara smacked the puck past Quinnipiac’s Chris Truehl to give the Bulldogs an early lead. Joe Snively and John Hayden picked up assists on the goal at 4:22.

Quinnipiac responded on the power play at 9:56 when Chase Priskie’s blast from the point got past Patrick Spano of Yale to tie things up. Brogan Rafferty picked up the assist.

In the second period DiChiara struck again with a wrap around after Snively had shot it initially to put Yale up 2-1 at 2:27. That would be the last lead the Bulldogs would hold as Priskie again stuck on the power play assisted by Tanner McMaster and Logan Smith at 5:53.

Nick Jermain scored his first two goals of the season in succession to put QU up 4-2. Assisted by Connor Clifton and Logan Mick at 14:22 in the 2^nd, and then at 4:30 in the third assisted by Kevin Duane and Logan Mick. The second goal came about when Yale passed the puck right to Mick in front of the net who shot it right on Spano, the rebound was shot by Duane, and finally Jermain put it in a gap opened up by the previous two attempts.

The final QU goal came at 13:38 when Tim Clifton was fed a good pass in front and he put it in. Assists went to Chase Priskie and Brogan Rafferty.

In addition to some defensive breakdowns Yale had hurt themselves by spending a lot of the time in the penalty box. Two boarding majors put them on the penalty kill for 10 minutes just on those alone. Additionally John Hayden, one of Yale’s most potent scorers spent 9 minutes in the box.

Truehl made 18 saves on 20 Yale shots, Spano made 17 on QU’s 22. It is tricky to know how much responsibility Spano has for the goals as the numerous QU power plays and defensive issues for Yale opened up a lot of opportunities.

Quinnipiac, who has struggled with consistency, was able to keep up the offensive pressure, and the defense did not allow Yale too many quality opportunities.

In terms of blocked shots. For Yale, Anthony Walsh had 3 and Matt Foley, Billy Sweezey, DiChiara had 2. Robbie DeMontis, Ted Hart, Hayden, Charlie Curti, and Izmirlian had 1 each.

For QU, Karlie Cukste blocked 4 shots, Connor Clifton blocked 3, Craig Martin blocked 2, and Alex Whelan, Tim Clifton, Tanner MacMaster, Tommy Schutt, an Kevin McKernan each had 1.

Quinnipiac rises to 16-11-2 and 10-6-1 in the ECAC. Yale drops to 10-9-4 and 6-7-3 in the ECAC.
