NWHL: Pride v. Whale

By David F. Pendrys

NORTHFORD, CT – In NWHL action Sunday afternoon, the Boston Pride continued their undefeated streak defeating the host Connecticut Whale 4-0. Jillian Dempsey put the Pride on the board first in the first assisted by Alex Carpenter and Alyssa Gagliardi.

In the second, the Whale found an opportunity on the power play, but the Pride broke out of their end and Zoe Hickel and Alex Carpenter broke in. Hickel passed it to Carpenter who shot it while falling over but still got it past Nicole Stock in the process.

In the third the Pride diminished the Whale’s possibilities further when Jillian Dempsey poked the puck into the net after Stock was drawn to the other side of it. Assists went to Amanda Pelkey and Carpenter.

The final dagger was delivered on a Pride power play late in the third when Hillary Knight put it in from close assisted by Alyssa Gagliardi and Brianna Decker.

Brittany Ott earned another feather in her goalie helmet as she picked up another shutout with 37 saves. Stock despite the loss, made 31 saves on 35 shots and was solid in net against numerous chances.
