Gymnastics: WCU, Cortland at SCSU

NEW HAVEN, CT – In a Sunday afternoon meeting, the Southern Connecticut State University Owls posted a 188.550 in their home opener. Visiting West Chester had a 190.650, and Cortland State scored a 179.050.

Majesta Valentine of West Chester posted the best Vault score of the day with her 9.75. Her teammates Selena Swanger and Meghan Chan had the second and third scores of 9.575 and 9.550 respectively. Tiffany Elliot had SCSU’s best score of 9.525, and Kristen Torres of WCU had a 9.5. Alexandra Avendano posted a 9.45 and Kylyn Dawkins had a 9.4 for Southern. Michael Stumpf had Cortland’s best score of 9.35.

Valentine’s 9.65 was the top Bars score of the day. Myranda Marshall also of WCU had a 9.525, Kathleen Aberger of SCSU had a 9.5, Jacqueline Kutcher swung to a 9.45, and Jordan Miranda had a 9.425. Arianna Turso posted Cortland’s best score of 9.225.

On the Balance Beam, Southern’s Rotem Porat led the meet with a 9.825 edging her teammate Aberger and her 9.8. Valentine had West Chester’s best tally of 9.675 and Chan scored a 9.6. Bailey Gildemeyer of Cortland scored a 9.5 to top all Red Dragons on the day.

On the Floor, Alexandra Avendano hit her routine for a 9.875 to lead the meet. Valentine’s 9.8 was good enough for second, and Swanger had a 9.7. Dawkins of SCSU and Madison Brent of WCU had a 9.625. Emily Loughery scored a 9.6, and not far behind came Aberger, her Owls teammate Abigail Bensley, and Cassie Hageman of West Chester. Gildemeyer had Cortland’s best performance of 9.375.

In the All Around, Valentine put together a 38.875, Swanger scored a 37.75 and Cortland’s Rachel Filipski scored a 34.8 on the day.
