Soccer: Bridgeport v. AIC

By David F. Pendrys

NEW HAVEN, CT- The Bridgeport Purple Knights opened their 2016 season at SCSU’s tournament and picked up a 1-0 win over the AIC Yellow Jackets thanks to an early goal from Idoia Agirre. Rebecka Ronnegard had the assist on the only score of the contest.

Goaltender Jennifer Wendelius fended off the AIC attack with 5 saves to shut them out despite a few serious challenges. The Purple Knights took six shots, four of them by Agirre including several breaks, though Madison Brown of AIC made saves on all but 1.

With the win Bridgeport rises to 1-0 and faces Southern Connecticut themselves Sunday. AIC drops to 0-1 and faces LIU Sunday as well.
