Gymnastics Yale hosts WCU, RIC on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, CT- The Yale Bulldogs sent their two seniors off with a win Saturday as Yale posted a 192.275 edging the Division 2 West Chester Rams and their 191.125. The D3 Rhode Island College Anchorwomen also posted a 176.325.

Yale Seniors Camilla Opperman and Brittney Sooksengdao have been critical pieces of the Yale lineup. Opperman had to rebound from injury early on in her Yale career and that she did. Sooksengdao was of similar importance to the Bulldogs in her team competing for the blue and white.

Opperman posted a 9.825 on Floor and a 9.7 on Vault to win both events

Her teammates Jessica Wang and Tatiana Winkelman won Bars with a 9.775.

Fellow Bulldog Megan Ryan scored a 9.8 to win Beam as well.

West Chester’s Majesta Valentine took the All Around compiling a 38.775

Yale

Ryan had a 9.625 on Vault, Anella Anderson was third among Yale competitors with a 9.475.

Ryan swung ton a 9.675 on Bars, and Allison Bushman had a 9.65.

On Beam, Anderson’s held steady for a 9.775, with Sooksengdao, Roxanne Trachtenberg, and Tatiana Winkelman all posted 9.65s as well.

Kiarra Alleyne flipped to a 9.8 on Floor, Anderson had a 9.65, and Ryan a 9.550

Ryan posted a 38.65 All Around score, and Anderson 38.0

West Chester

Valentine led the team on Vault with her 9.675 placing second, Maia Curry’s 9.625 followed tying Ryan for third place. Lindsey Mathis scored a 9.55 for WCU’s third best score.

On Bars Valentine led the way again with her 9.7, good enough for third in the meet. Meghan Brannon wasn’t far behind with her 9.65.

On Beam, Lindsay Knapp’s 9.65 was the third highest score of the meet along with the Yale crowd. Valentine, Cecelia Lorenzen, and Rose Wortman all put up 9.625s, and Emily Loughery added a 9.6.

On Floor Valentine’s 9.775 was third in the meet, and tops among Rams. Loughery threw a 9.65 ,and Selena Swanger had a 9.525. Swanger also put together a 37.8 in the All Around.

Rhode Island College

For RIC, Kyndel Yett led the Anchorwomen on Vault flying to a 9.525. Her teammate Courtney Osborn hit a 9.5 towards a team score of 46.750. Vault is RIC’s strongest event this year so far.

On Bars Courtney Osborn led the team in what proved to be a rough rotation. On the Beam Cailee Mallory posted a 9.450, followed by Osborn’s 9.375, and Emma Hartan’s 9.2.

On the Floor, Osborn led the Anchorwomen again with a 9.05, and Erin Shea added a 9.00. In the All Around Osborn put together a solid 36.775.

Yale will be at SCSU next Sunday, West Chester travels to Springfield the same day and Rhode Island College hosts Ithaca as well.
