NEW HAVEN, CT- In a stunning back and forth, the Yale Bulldogs snatched a win from the #5 Quinnipiac Bobcats in a rematch from last weekend. It was a game where penalties proved to be decisive. In net was Hanna Mandl for Yale and Sydney Rossman for Quinnipiac as it was a week ago.

Late in the first Jordan Chancellor scored on Rossman with assists from Mallory Souliotis, and Janelle Ferrara. When the second period began one of Quinnipiac’s dangerous lines would break in on net. T.T. Cianfarano came up the left side and fed it to Emma Woods who was able to smack the puck into the net before Mandl could re-position to tie the game. An assist also went Melissa Samoskevich at 1:23.

This would be the end of scoring for the period, but the third would be quite a period. With Samoskevich in the box, QU would manage a scoring attempt anyway, however Yale would reset and begin their attack. During a wild sequence in front of the net, Rossman got drawn to the far right opening up a big swath of the goal but Quinnipiac’s Emma Greco sprawled across the ice to prevent Yale’s Krista Yip-Chuck from doing anything with a loose puck. It did only delay things though as Eden Murray got the puck in front and sent it over Rossman’s glove in to the net. Assists went to Souliotis and Taylor Marchin at 3:23.

Quinnipiac responded within a minute as Kristen Tamberg teed up a shot from the point and Meghan Turner deflected it into the net at 4:18 with the second assist going to Randi Marcon.

The game continued, but Yale got called for two penalties in rapid succession given Quinnipiac nearly 2 full minutes of 5 on 3. QU set up the passing formation and went at it. Eventually Cydney Roesler found a hole and shot it through the D and past Mandl with about a minute left in the power play. The Bobcats would be unable to convert though but they had a 3-2 lead. Assists went to Cianfarano and Woods.

Ferrara would go top shelf over Rossman four minutes later with assists going to Chancellor and Murray. With the score tied, QU got called for a penalty, and Yale made the most of it, swarming the area until Ferrara shot it from up close into the net to take the lead, with assists going to Phoebe Staenz and Marchin.

Yale kept up the pressure and QU couldn’t even get their goalie pulled for the extra attacker late in the game. When the buzzer sounded despite a shot differential of 26 to 9 against Yale had picked up the victory.
