NORWICH, CT- After upsetting Bryant on the first day of the NEC baseball tournament, Fairleigh Dickenson had to face the Sacred Heart Pioneers with a championship game berth on the line. FDU’s momentum did not carry on as SHU downed them 10-0 as Jason Foley pitched a two hit complete game shut out and held FDU hitless through most of 6 innings.
All the runs Sacred Heart would need were scored in 2nd as they struck early. Ted Shaw walked, and after an out, Cody Doyle singled. Kenny Byram than singled in Shaw and moved Doyle to third. Jayson Sullivan tripled bringing in Doyle and Byram. Jesus Medina than singled in Sullivan to put the Pioneers up 4-0.
Sacred Heart picked up insurance runs though, Zach Short homered twice, each time for two runs and bringing in Medina who was almost always on base in this game. Short also in the 5th drove in Byram with a sac fly and in the 7th Short got Byram home (though on an error) as well.
Sacred Heart moved on to a potential championship game vs. an opponent to be determined, though as I am late posting this, SHU already lost to Bryant forcing a deciding Sunday game.
