This post is a couple weeks late but nonetheless here is a wrap up of a lot that went on in women’s hockey recently.
In the CWHL, the Boston Blades won the Clarkson Cup defeating the Montreal Stars. In overtime Janine Weber defeated the stalwart Charline Labonte for the 3-2 Boston win. [CWHL Recap] [She Shoots and Scores Report] This followed an exciting playoff series in which the Stars got through the tough Calgary Inferno [CWHL Recap] and Boston defeated the Toronto Furies. In local college hockey, Quinnipiac and Yale both participated in the ECAC tournament. Quinnipiac defeated Princeton in the first round but Yale fell to Harvard. Harvard went on to defeat Quinnipiac in the semis on the way to their ECAC Championship. Quinnipiac got another shot at Harvard in the Quarterfinals of the NCAA Tournament but Harvard won yet again.
Brianna Decker of the Blades won Rookie of the Year honors. She was a scoring machine in her first season. [Women’s Hockey Life Report]
In the EWHL, the Vienna Sabres defeated the Bozen Eagles 5-2 and 4-1 to win the EWHL Championship. [Sabres Facebook Post] [Sabres Google Translated Release] [Sabres Photo Gallery] A replay of the championship is posted on UStream.
In the SPHL, Shannon Szabados continues to play well for the Columbus Cottonmouths. She won March 20th to gain a 15-8-1 record. She picked up 25 saves March 12th [Official Release] and 21 saves March 5th. [Official Release]
