SPRINGFIELD, MA- On day one of competition at the ECAC-EIGL Gymnastics Championships Temple picked up the Team Championship when their 411.650 edged William and Mary’s 410.450. The University of Illinois Chicago posted third with 409.350. The Owls went into the event as the reigning champions but ranked second behind William and Mary, but they were able to pull it out over the Tribe. Springfield was fourth, Army fifth, and Navy sixth.
Army’s Kip Webber and William and Mary’s Daniel Potemski tied for first in the All Around with a tie score of 82.850. A close third was UIC’s Joseph Hodges with a 82.550. Webber’s total included a 14.6 on Floor and Rings. Potemski scored a 14.5 on Vault as his highest score. Teammates from the champions, Allan Malone and Jon Rydzefski placed fourth with a 81.6. Chris Junghans of Navy had an 81.55.
Individual qualifiers for event finals were also determined tonight. Springfield Athletics has the full list of qualifiers and will have day two results
No awards were given individually in these events tonight but just for reference, Dan Zerbel of UIC had the top score on floor with a 14.9 and Garrek Hojan-Clark of Army had the top score on the Pommel Horse scoring a 14.8. Landon Funiciello of William and Mary had the top score of 15.6 on the Rings and Mitchell Larios of Navy posted a 15.2 on the Vault. Also, Alex Tighe of Temple posted the top score on Parallel Bars of 14.5 and Hodges of UIC had a 14.8 to post the top score of the day on the High Bar.
