NEW HAVEN, CT- The Yale Women’s Hockey team won their home finale Saturday with a victory over the Princeton Tigers. Prince got on the board at 15:17 in period 1 when Olivia Mucha knocked it past Yale’s Erin Callahan thanks to an assist by Rose Alleva. The period ended with Princeton up 1 to 0.
Yale found themselves on the power play early in Period 2, but Princeton’s Brianna Leahy broke in on the keeper and scored a short handed goal assisted by Denna Laing at 4:48 to put the Tigers up 2-0 in unconventional fashion. The Bulldogs made good when on the power play a second time in the period though as Aurora Kennedy sent a slapper from back in the zone and Alyssa Zupon ended up knocking it at close range past Princeton’s Kimberly Newell. The period ended with no further scoring but Yale was still down 1.
Period three opened with Yale in trouble having survive two straight minor penalties. At 6:48 Yale’s Natalie Wedell struck after that assisted by Kate Martini and Lynn Kennedy. Martini fed the puck across the goal mouth and Wedell found a gap to smack it into. The game was now tied at 2. Yale however wasn’t done. At 11:05 Lynn Kennedy skated in and shot it past the keeper at close range. The Bulldogs now led by 1. No scoring would follow until late, and Princeton pulled the goaltender.
Of course the danger for Princeton is Yale would get an empty netter and Tara Tomimoto did just that unassisted at 19:25 to ensure a Bulldog victory. Yale notched their 5 win of the season to go to 5-20-3. Princeton dropped to 11-16-2.
