NEW HAVEN, CT- The Brown Bears picked up their first Ivy Classic victory since 1990 over Cornell, Penn, and host Yale, Saturday afternoon.

Brown started on Vault and pulled out to a lead they would never relinquish. Cornell got past Beam in rotation 1, and Penn had the traditionally high scoring Floor to work with. Yale started on Bars. Brown emerged from rotation 1 with a .5 lead over both Cornell and Yale. Penn was trailing by 1 point after Floor.

In rotation 2, Brown moved to the Uneven bars. Cornell moved to Floor, Yale went to the treacherous Beam, and Penn got Vault. Brown kept the lead but saw their lead shrink to .35. Penn still trailed by over a point, and Yale took a big hit and trailed by over a point and a half after a rough time on the narrow apparatus.

In rotation 3, Brown had to contend with the Beam though knew they could finish on Floor. Cornell headed to Vault. Penn got the Bars, and Yale had Floor. Despite being the host team the draw did not give them the Floor for the final rotation. Brown not only survived Beam but pulled ahead of Cornell by .8 Penn was now 2 points behind, and Yale 2.5.

Brown now had a lead, and the Floor exercise. Cornell moved to the Bars, Penn had Beam, and Yale ended on the Vault. Brown and Cornell both scored solidly on their events, but Brown was able to pull ahead slightly further for 193.925 to 193.025 victory. Penn finished with a 191.6, and Yale fourth with a 191.1.

Brown and Coach Sara Carver-Milne came away with the Ivy Team Title. Individually the Bears also took some titles as Michelle Shnayder also took the All Around and Emily Lutfey won the Vault. Cornell’s Alexis Schupp won the Bars title. Penn’s Megan Milavec won Beam, and Yale’s Tara Feld won the Floor in front of the Yale faithful to give each team at least one Ivy title on the day.

These four teams will meet again for another prize, along with William and Mary and Temple, in the ECAC championships as Penn looks to defend their title March 23rd at Cornell.
