SCSU hosts West Chester, Springfield on Senior Day

NEW HAVEN, CT- One day after taking on Yale across town, SCSU was in their home gym to welcome in Springfield and West Chester on Senior Day. The handful of seniors received their accolades before the crowd, and then it was time for the meet’s business to be conducted. Southern posted a 187.525 to take the meet over WCU’s 185.375, and SC’s 181.875.

On the Vault, SCSU’s anchor Rebecca Brady took first with a 9.775. Second was Stephanie Schuler of WCU who scored a 9.575, and Carly Flynn of Springfield posted a 9.5. Both SCSU and WCU posted 46.9s on the event and SC a 45.35.

On the Bars, Schuler took first thanks to a 9.6. Lauren Pocius took second as she swung to a 9.475 for SC. Third was Stephanie Kuska of SCSU as she had a 9.45 and a handful of other gymnasts topped 9.4 on the day. WCU’s 47.000 was the best team score on the event, SCSU had a 46.75 and SC a 45.85.

On the perilous Beam, Mallory Miller led the team and meet with a 9.675. Jessica Kiback followed up her performance the day before with a 9.65, and Kaley LaFleur of West Chester had a 9.6. Abby Clark posted Springfield’s best score of the day on the narrow apparatus, a 9.45 good enough for fourth. SCSU had a team score of 46.35, WCU a 45.75, and SC a 44.8.

Finally on the floor,SCSU finished up with their best team score of the day with a 47.525 led by Brady’s 9.7 and Miller’s 9.65. Brianna Ecklof and Gabriella Hude were third with their 9.45 to give the Owls the sweep. LaFleur and Flynn each had 9.35s. WCU had a 46.025 on the day, and SC a 45.875.

Schuler took the all around thanks to a 37.875. Cole posted a 36.925, and Lauren Pocius had a 36.35 for the Pride of SC.
