SPRINGFIELD, MA- In their home opener, SC hosted local teams Yale, and SCSU as well as fellow ECAC Division 3 team, the Brockport Golden Eagles, in a meet with good news for all the teams involved. For Springfield they had improved mightily on their last meet, Brockport earned a continued number one ranking in Division 3, SCSU saw two of their school records fall, and Yale won the meet to open up the season as new arrivals picked up key scores.

Yale’s 189.475 bolstered by a 48.3 on Floor and 47.625 on Bars took the meet. Southern Connecticut who posted a 48.2 on floor and also the meet high on Vault of 47.475 took second with a 188.825. Brockport’s 186.475 was good enough for third, though their vault score of 47.450 was just behind Southern and was their highest scoring event. Springfield’s 184.550 resulted in fourth but was still a big time improvement over their last meet.

Joyce Li of Yale took the All Around with a 38.050 in her first collegiate meet. Her teammate Morgan Traina took second with a 37.800. Springfield’s Brittany Baglow set a personal best of 37.775 for third edging out Brockport’s Elizabeth Levy and her 37.425. SC’s Lauren Pocius had the fifth highest score of 37.100 and Mia Yabut of Yale rounded out the all arounders with a 36.275.

On the Vault Rebecca Brady’s new school record of 9.825 for SCSU took first. Baglow was second along with Gabrielle Petitto of Brockport as they both scored a 9.550, and Traina had a 9.525 edging Carly Flynn of SC, Amanda Carney of Brockport, Baily Brumbach of SCSU, and Li who all had 9.500s.

On the Uneven Bars, another SCSU record fell as Kirby Pallis scored a 9.850. Second was Traina and her teammate Lindsay Andsager who had 9.775s, Brockport’s Levy had a 9.625. Pocius and Brianna Chrisman had 9.5’s as well.

On the Beam, Li took first with a 9.7, Levy had a 9.675, Traina a 9.650, Brumbach a 9.575, Tara Feld of Yale a 9.550, and Colleen Chahbazi of Brockport added a 9.525

Over on the Floor, Feld took first scoring a 9.775, Stephanie Goldstein of the Bulldogs scored 9.750, Brumbach flipped to a 9.725, and Brady and Li had 9.7s. Annmarie Graziosa was SC’s top scorer with a 9.65, and Kileigh Chapman was Brockport’s as she scored a 9.550.

Just a lot of good news for a variety of gymnasts and teams early on in the season.
