SPRINGFIELD, MA- Although the team will be back in action at Blake Arena in a few weeks for D3 Nationals, it was the last regular home season meet for the Springfield College Pride and thus Senior Day. Division 1 Yale arrived looking to bounce back from last week at Ivy’s and both teams had reason to smile. The Bulldogs put up a 189.50 and Springfield a season average 182.600.

Yale’s Tara Feld placed first on Vault with a 9.750, Brigitte Kivisto was second adding a 9.675, and Christina Pagella of Springfield was third with her 9.500. Allison Mak of Yale was 4th with a 9.475, SC’s Carly Flynn and Senior Jeanna Bradle tied for fifth with 9.350s.

On the Uneven Bars, Yale freshman Lindsay Andsager continued to excel in her specialty winning the event with a 9.675, her teammate Kivisto was second with a 9.625 and Feld third with a 9.575. Their teammate Stephanie Goldstein added fourth with a 9.200. SC’s Megan German and Mak tied for 5th with 9.175s. Although it was not their best event of the day total, SC did set a season high on Bars and several of their gymnasts pointed to that rotation as the highlight of the meet.

On Beam, Kivisto took 1st scoring a 9.825, Mak was second with a 9.675, Goldstein third scoring a 9.525, then SC’s Kayleigh Davis added a 9.475, and Brittany Davis a 9.300. Sherry Yang posted a 9.2 for sixth. Yale’s Mia Yabut competed on the Beam for the first time this season as well.

Over on the Floor, Kivisto was first with a 9.850, Feld posted a 9.75 for second, Yale’s Talis Trevino was third with a 9.625, SC’s Pagella, senior Ericca Castagna, and Yale’s Goldstein all posted 9.6s to tie for fourth as well.

Kivisto set a season high in the All Around of 38.975 to win, Feld was second with a 37.950, Goldstein third with a 37.650.

Yale hits the road to Rutgers next week to take on the Scarlet Knights and the ECAC leading Towson Tigers. Springfield heads to Brockport New York, for the ECAC Division 3 Championships where they will take on the other teams in the conference.

As it was senior day, the six seniors were honored following the meet. Jeanna Bradle, Ericca Castagna, Brittany Davis, Kayleigh Davis, Audrey Lastra, and Lizzie Sartell were all honored, and all competed today. Sartell though does have a year of eligibility so she’ll likely be back next season. The seniors was given gifts and their achievements celebrated by the crowd.

Additionally, the event was dubbed Tumble for Teal, to raise awareness of Gynecological Cancer. Maureen Duffy, a former Springfield College gymnast, lost her battle with cancer in 2006 and in honor of her, Team Maureen seeks to raise funds and awareness in the fight against cancer.
