SPRINGFIELD, MA- The Temple Owls varsity squad, as well as the Brockport Golden Eagles and MIT Engineers Clubs and a bunch of area clubs as well, descended on Blake Arena to take part in the New England Men’s Gymnastics Invitational Sunday afternoon. The result was a win for Temple when they scored a 334.500 to Springfield’s 331.30 but there was plenty of good news all around.

In the All Around Springfield’s Ty Evans took the title with an 84.550, teammate Josh Fox finished second with an 82.900, Temple’s Blake Collins placed third with an 82.150, and not far off that pace was MIT’s Brett Lazarus who scored a 79.2

On the Floor, Allan Malone took first for TU with a 14.65 edging Evans’ 14.450. Scott Bloomfield was third for temple with a 14.3.

Individual competitor John Jefferies took the Pommel Horse with a 13.250, Temple’s Jesse Kitzen-Abelson was 2nd with a 13.2, SC’s Josh Fox and Matt Tocchio both scored 12.950 for third.

On the Still Rings, Collins took first with a 14.500, and his teammate Chris Mooney had a 14.450. Jake Shapiro of MIT scored a 14.150 to edge teammate Lazarus’s 14.100.

The Vault would go to Bloomfield as he powered to a 15.6. Evans was second with his 15.4, and Jeff Zack of Temple was third with a 15.150.

On the Parallel Bars Evans took another title with a 14.3, Kyle Bartgis was second with a 14.150 helping SC go 1,2, and Bloomfield’s 14.1 was third.

On the High Bar, Evans won again with a 14.6 edging Fox’s 14.5, and Bloomfield’s 14.450.

Springfield scored a season high of 60.3 on Vault as well as a 56.15 on high Bar. The Pride finished on the High Bar and momentum was building throughout the rotation as each successive gymnast flew off into their dismounts and stuck them, including both the top finishers Fox and Evans. Temple also picked up a season high on the rings with a 56.6. Noted by his teammates was the absence of team captain Patrick McLaughlin due to injury, he is TU’s top scoring all arounder.

The MIT and Brockport club teams were also at it with their lineups, though Brockport was competing undermanned due to illness and injury.
