PROVIDENCE, RI- The Bridgeport Purple Knights picked up another batch of victories Sunday evening scoring 190.225 while the Brown Bears at home picked up a season high 188.550, and Ivy League rival, the Penn Quakers, scored a 183.975. Also in attendance, was the URI Club Team. Because the only home meet left at Brown is the Ivy Classic, which is technically a championship meet, it was Senior Day at Brown. Before the event began, Brown took a moment to honor two seniors, Izzy Kirkham-Lewitt and Helen Segal. Each has made contributions to the team throughout their years at Brown, in various events this season and in the past. Each was honored for their work outside the gym as well.

Bridgeport’s top event of the day was the vault where the Knights flew to a 48.275. It was actually a lower scoring day than usual for UB, but even so it was enough for the win handily. Brown hit the season high bolstered by their best scoring event of the day of Vault picking up a 47.775, and their floor and beam especially held stead, though Bars was supported by Meyer’s high score on the day. Penn’s top even of the day was also the Vault where the Quakers put up a 47.325 lead by Strausbaugh’s score.

The University of Rhode Island’s club team competes under different circumstances outside the varsity sphere but all the same, their competitors put up many scores in the 8 ranges, and a few moved into the 9 range, but context is important.

In the individual competition, Bridgeport’s Lorraine Galow added to her merits with a 9.775 to win the vault, teammate and former Olympian Monica Mesalles was second with a 9.725, Brown’s Carli Wiesenfeld was third with a 9.650, Penn’s Kirsten Strausbaugh 4th with a 9.625, UB’s Tiara Land 5th with a 9.575, and 5 gymnasts came in 6th, Brown’s Katie Goddard and Emily Lutfey, as well as Bridgeport’s Amanda Goodman, Niki Calderon, and Hannah Forti, all scored 9.575s.

On the Bars, Carissa Huggins took first for UB with her 9.75, Julia Meyer took second for Brown with a 9.7, Strausbaugh and Galow were third with their 9.575. Penn’s Elise Bowe was 5th with a 9.550, and UP’s Megan Milavec and UB’s Hannah Forti sixth with a 9.425.

On Beam, UB’s Emily Repko scored a 9.625, Brown’s Meyer was second with her 9.575, UB’s Caroline McAvity and Galow had 3rd and 4th with 9.550 and 9.525s respectively. Emily Lutfey for Brown and Breanna Collins of Bridgeport each had 9.5s to tie for 5th. Jenny Hurst was Penn’s top performer coming in seventh with a 9.450

On Floor, Katie Goddard of Brown won the event with a 9.625, Mesalles was second with her 9.575, Lutfey and Collins were third with a 9.550, Brown’s Nicole Abdo and Chelsey Binkley, along with UB’s Jessica Watts all had 9.475s. Strausbaugh was the top scorer for Penn with a 9.450.

In the All Around, Galow won with a 38.075, Binkley placed second with a 37.350, Lutfey was right behind her with a 37.325, Milavec had a 37.3, Brown’s Lauren Hall a 36.875, and Elise Bowe of Penn rounded out the top 6 with a 36.2.

Next week Brown is at Alaska, Bridgeport takes on Southern Connecticut and Yale at Yale, and Penn is at Towson to participate in their invitational there.
