NEW HAVEN, CT- In a meeting between D1 Yale and D3 Springfield, the Bulldogs put up a 188.925, and the Pride scored a 183.000 on the day. Given the scoring it was unlikely the Pride would beat the team score of the Bulldogs, but there was plenty of competition in the individual ranks after SC came off a high scoring day last week, and Yale also improved upon their marks from last week at SCSU. Yale is working towards Ivy Classics in just a few weeks up at Brown, and Springfield continues to work to keep up their rankings in the ECAC Division 3 and Division 3 National Rankings.
Yale’s Brigitte Kivisto took first on the Vault with a 9.725, her teammate Tara Feld took second with a 9.65, and Springfield’s Ericca Castagna utilized her new vault for the second week and hit a 9.475.
On the Bars, Kivisto and fellow Bulldog Lindsay Andsager scored a 9.65 to win the event. Feld scored a 9.6 for third place.
On the Beam, Allison Mak scored a 9.775 to take the event, after her crowd pleasing Homma mount. Springfield’s Audrey Lastra took second with a 9.7. She had by far the largest cheering section in the the house, being from Connecticut, and also having her old gym club watching from just feet away. As she hit her landing they broke out into a rousing cheer. Yale’s Feld took third with a 9.675.
Over on the Floor, Kivisto again took an event title with her 9.775, Feld was second with a 9.625, and SC’s Castagna hit a 9.575.
Feld would win the All Around scoring a 38.575 adding to the merits of her collegiate career in a short time. Kivisto’s 38.350 was second, and teammate Stephanie Goldstein scored a 37.3.
Next week Springfield hosts Division 2 Southern Connecticut at home in Blake Arena, bringing together the regions two SC’s in another contest. Yale will be at home again and also welcomes in SCSU the day before their trip to Springfield, and Bridgeport in another meeting of the three Connecticut teams.
