NEW HAVEN, CT- SCSU picked up the win putting up a 185.95 to top SUNY Brockport’s 184.55 and MIT’s 175. In the highly competitive All Around MIT’s Julia Zimmerman took the title with a 37.825, to Brockport’s Kaitlin Dewey’s 37.625 and SCSU’s Taylor Murray’s 37.400. On the Vault, Zimmerman picked up the top score with a 9.55, a Brockport gymnast was second, and Brockport’s Lauren Gildemeyer was third with a 9.40. On the Bars, it was SCSU’s specialist Sarah Darst with a 9.65, Zimmerman had a 9.525, and Brockport’s Christina Baggetta placed third with a 9.425 Briana DiPinto tied with a Brockport gymnast for 1st on Beam with her 9.625. I’m still sorting through who placed in that event, as the announcement came through garbled. Finally, on floor, DiPinto took first with a 9.775, Gildemeyer was second with a 9.675 and I believe Dewey was third with 9.625.

(Routine breakdowns coming this week. I’ll be able to speak more about the individual elements as I review the video.)

A look at the scores. (Will update with info on Brockport when it becomes available.)

Southern’s Taylor Murray had the team’s best score on Vault of the day with a 9.375. Darst took the Bars title for the day, but ti was Murray with second among her team with a 9.35. SCSU had a good day on Beam as aside from DiPinto’s meet high score, Alanna Laecca had what I believe to b e a new high score of 9.55, Caitlin Brier and Jessica Kiback added 9.45s and Murray had a 9.3. On what was somewhat of a lower scoring day on Vault and Bars, their solid performance on the dangerous beam put Southern back in a position to take the meet, along with the individual merits. On floor, DiPinto took the meet high score againand not far behind her was Briere with a 9.6 and Darst with a 9.5. Murray and Arianna Mallardi also added in the posted scores contributing to the Owls highest scoring event of the day.

For MIT, Zimmerman picked up the team’s top score on every event but the Beam on her way to the all around title, and freshman Leanna Morinishi scored the top Beam score of 9.45, along with the second best team score on Vault, Floor and Bars for the day. It was a good day for both of MIT’s all arounders. Karis Stevenson also picked up a 9.0 on the Vault and Katie Mingo continues to put up her solid scoring on the Floor with her 9.275.
