Here’s just a brief look at the past weekend’s action.

North Carolina at New Hampshire

UNC: 195.95, UNH 196.225

UNC: Zoya Johnson and Jennifer Valby led the team with 9.875s on vault, and Morgan Evans had a 9.85. On the Bars, Kara Wright led with a 9.875, and Rachel Schneider, Christine Nguyen and Johnson weren’t far behind. On the Beam, Nguyen had a 9.8 to lead the Tar Heels. On the floor, Nguyen had a 9.925 and Krista Jasper a 9.9. Nguyen finished the day with a 39.25 in the all around and Wright a 39.1. UNC had three rotations above 49.

UNH: The Wildcats scored a high better than most of the nation has managed pulling themselves into the top 30 in the country. They also managed three rotations above 49. Helena Diodati had a 9.925 to lead the team on vault with Justine Turner, Ali Carr, and Katie Caliendo close. On the Bars, it was Katie Lawrence, Danielle Reibold and Keeley Smith all posting 9.8s for the top score. On the Beam Taryn LaFountain and Katie Caliendo’s 9.85 was the high among the home team. Chelsea Steinberg and Turner were just a bit off that pace. On the Floor Julie Sauchuk and Smith both had 9.9s to top the team and LaFountain trailed only slightly. Diodati scored a 39.2 in the all around.

Brown, Towson at Penn

Towson: 192.85 Penn: 189.725 Brown: 187.3

Towson: In picking up the victory Towson had an especially good day on Floor. Over on the vault Alise McDonald’s 9.875 topped the Tigers and Avis Hixon was 2nd among them. Jackie Schweitzer’s 9.85 on the Bars led the team and McDonald was second. On the Beam Alyssa Dittman’s 9.775 was the top score and Kacy Catanzaro and Schweitzer were close. On the Floor McDonald’s 9.75, along with Hixon and Megan Wooden’s 9.8 were the team’s top three scores. McDonald had a 39.075 on the floor and Wooden a 38.225.

Penn: For the Quakers Laura DiPaolo put up a 9.825 on the vault, and Jordan Brewer was 2nd among the home team. Brewer’s 9.625 led the team on Bars as well. On the Beam, Brewer’s 9.775 set the pace for her team, and Sarah Parsons was close behind. Brewer also had a 9.775 on Floor for the team’s top score. Brewer’s 38.85 on the all around was first among Quakers.

Brown: For the Bears, Carli Wiesenfeld had a 9.525 and Chelsey Binkley a 9.5 for the top scores on Vault. On the Bars, Wiesenfeld had a 9.45 with Lilly Siems second among teammates. On the Beam it was Lauren Tucker with the top score of 9.575 and Siems had a 9.525. On the Floor Binkley’s 9.625 was the team best, with Katie Goddard’s 9.6 following. Siems posted a 37.775 in the all around and Wiesenfeld was just a few tenths behind that.

Brown, Southern Connecticut, at West Chester

SCSU: 185.3 Brown: 185.25 West Chester: 178.3

Southern Connecticut pulled off the win over D1 Brown and one their ECAC D2 rivals West Chester.

SCSU: No individual scores available yet.

Brown: Brown completed their two meet road trip in the philly area with some highlights including Lilly Siems and Chelsey Binkley’s 9.4s to lead the team on Vault. Melissa Bowe had a 9.475 and Vicki Zanelli a 9.4 on Bars to have the teams top scores there. Carli Wiesenfeld was the pace setter among Bears on Beam with a 9.5 and Zanelli was very close to that mark as well. On the Floor it was Katie Goddard’s 9.575 that topped the team. Wiesenfeld and Siems both competed all around at the meet.

West Chester: The Golden Rams had their best rotation of the day on Vault with Alli Aquila’s 9.45 and Felicia Massaro’s 9.4 leading the team. Aquila also had the top score on Bars. On the Floor it was Aquila’s 9.25 for a top score and Lindsey Britt was just behind her.

Rutgers, George Washington, Maryland at West Virginia

Rutgers: 187.95 George Washington: 191.775 Maryland: 194.475 West Virginia: 193.925

Maryland picked up the win over the reigning EAGL champs and it certainly looks like the league will be very competitive this year especially with teams like New Hampshire scoring so well up north as this meet was occurring.

Rutgers: Alyssa Lewandowski scored the top vault score for the Scarlet Knights with her 9.675. Kiah Banfield and Nicole Rose were close behind. On the Bars it was Kristy Behr’s 9.5 leading the way. Brooke Schwanburger posted a 9.6 on beam, and Nicole Schwartz was close. On Floor, the best event of the day for the red and white, Danae Johnson scored a 9.85 and Rose a 9.725.

George Washington: For the Colonials three gymnasts, Leslie Delima, Erin Quigg, and Kristen Simpson hit 9.7s on Vault. Delima had the top bars score of 9.725 followed by Gillian Coleman’s 9.7. On the Beam Megan Quinn’s 9.675 was the top for the Colonials. On the Floor Delima and Quinn both had 9.825s. Delima and Amanda Murphy both competed in the all around with Delima posting a 38.325 and Murphy a 37.675.

Maryland: The Terps picked p the win thanks to strong scores all around, but Kyra Phillips scored the top team vault score and Abbey Adams were close for the eventual winners with the rest of the counted scores not far behind. On the Bars Adams scored a 9.85 and Brandi George a 9.8 ahead of a pack of nearby scores as well. On the Beam, George had a 9.85 and Talia Tossone’s 9.825 was second among the U of M gymnasts. On the Floor Adams put up a 9.l9 and George a 9.85. George scored a 39.225 in the All Around and Michele Brenner had a 38.475 in her contribution.

West Virginia: On the Vault Chelsi Tabor’s 9.875, Tina Maloney’s 9.825, and Emily Kerwins 9.8 were the Colonials top 3. Nicole Roach had a 9.85 for the top team score on Bars and Erica Watson was behind her but not by much. On the Beam Kiersten Spoerke used the 4 inch apparatus to get a 9.l9 and Jenn Sharon was second a tenth back. Meghan Morris posted a 9.95 on Floor during a great FX rotation for the team. Amy Bieski added a 9.9 and the rest of the counted scores were all above 9.8. Morris had a 38.425 in her all around score, and Bieski a 38.225.

Other notes…

MIT had a 177.825 to win their meet this weekend. Julia Zimmerman had the top team score on all four events putting up a 9.55 on Vault, 9.375 on Bars, 9.6 on Beam, and 9.4 on Floor. Leanna Morinishi had the team’s 2nd best scores on Vault and Bars. Katie Mingo had the team’s 2nd best beam score and 2nd best floor score. Zimmerman Morinishi and Karis Stevenson all competed in the all around.

Bridgeport won their second meet of the weekend on Sunday with a 188.05 score. Hannah Forti’s 9.55 topped the team in Vault followed by Jamie DePaola and Lorraine Galow. On the Bars, Forti led the team again with her 9.6 and Carissa Huggins put up a 9.45 to complete a weekend of solid bars work. Emily Repko’s 9.825 on the Balance Beam was the top team score on any apparatus, and Breanna Collins was second among Purple Knights. On the floor, Collins took the lead with a 9.675. Repko was second among teammates. Lorraine Galow was the lone All Around performer and posted a 37.35.
